Flipside Crypto RFP: Node Infrastructure Partner (May 2020)

Abstract:

Flipside is seeking a node infrastructure partner who can manage nodes for up to 100 different blockchains.

Background and Status:

Flipside Crypto provides business intelligence to blockchain organizations by sourcing raw, historical block, historical transaction and historical balance data from blockchain nodes, and applying behavioral modeling to analyze stakeholder behaviors and token flows. This process is called Chainwalking.

Flipside’s Chainwalking Process

Flipside currently manages dozens of nodes internally, and also sources dozens of nodes directly from blockchain projects.

Flipside will be focusing resources on data science and development of insights, and has determined it would make the most sense to consolidate and outsource all of our nodes to a partner who can manage all day-to-day operations.

This RFP is seeking to identify a partner or series of partners who will take over the node portion of our business.

Node Requirements:

For all Nodes, Flipside requires the following:

  • RPC access
  • Fully archival
  • Ability to query historical balances via the RPC interface
  • Ability to query / stream mem-pool transactions
  • Read-only access (i.e. we won’t be submitting transactions, staking, etc.)
  • Ability to handle a minimum request throughput of 1000 requests/minute
  • For Ethereum, full tracing enabled to replay contract executions

Node Priority List:

Below is the optimal priority order. Maximizing the management of nodes in groups 1 and 2 will be goals for the short term, with group 3 for the mid-term.

Priority Group 1:

Celo Foundation, Cosmos Network, ethereum, Dapper Labs (Flow), Polkadot, Ripple Solana, Tezos, TRON Foundation

Priority Group 2:

Binance, Coda, dfinity-network, Edgeware, Elrond Network, Enigma Project, eosio, Ipfs Filecoin, Grin, Harmony Labs, Helium Network Token, Keep, Libra, Livepeer / F, Matic, NuCypher, The Oasis Team, Orchid, Skale, Ton

Priority Group 3:

Aion, Algorand, Ardor, Bitcoin, BitShares.Org, Blockstack Inc, Burst, Cardano Foundation, Crown Tech, Dash, Decred, Duality Blockchain Solutions, Electroneum, Ethereum Classic Labs, Elastos, Horizen Official, IoTeX, Kava Labs, Kin from Covation Labs, Monetary Unit, NavCoin, Near Protocol, Omni Layer, The Ontology Team, Steemit, VeChain X, WAX io, Zilliqa

Note that this will continue to evolve as the market evolves — the right partner should have the infrastructure and capacity to build and deploy nodes to meet market demands.

RFP Process:

Timeframe:

  • Initial responses no later than May 15, 2020
  • There will be a Q&A period, along with requests for more information
  • A subset of partners will be invited to present their proposal
  • Final partners are expected to be chosen on June 5, 2020

RFP response to include:

  • Confirmation that all “General Node Requirements” are possible (or clarity for which requirements are unable to be met or adapted).
  • Node coverage based on “Node Priority List”. Also please include timing / process for adding new protocols/new nodes beyond the defined list
  • Setup process and time to launch for each node, as well as SLA
  • Fee structure per node (and payment terms)
  • Confirmation of corporate viability; process and custody in the event of dissolution

Evaluation Criteria:

  • Efficiency of communications (simple and clear vs. complex and TMI)
  • Pace of deployments
  • Scope of coverage
  • Fee strategy and discounting at scale
